La Soufriere is an active volcano on Basse Terre, Guadeloupe, French West Indies. During our visit in April of 2000, signs prohibited climbing to the top because of high concentrations of sulfuric acid. See our report. The steam in the opening of the panorama above is coming from a vent to the left.
